There are many opportunities for different stages of your career, from training to nearing retirement, and for different interests or skills
During GP training
Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) permits a year out from training in the UK subject to approval from your training board
There may be funding for OOPE in some regions through a Global Health Fellowship

RCGP International
RCGP Int supports the development of high quality family medicine around the world and offers a variety of opportunities for work and study. Visit the site for details of:
• Placements/exchanges in Europe through the Erasmus programme
• Regional projects specific to location e.g. Sierra Leone, Uganda, Myanmar and led by local partners e.g. VSO, local GP societies
• Posts in accreditation and training services on behalf of RCGP International to foreign organisations such as health ministries or universities
• Grants for self-directed projects: International Travel Scholarship and Eric Gambrill awards to fund study of or development of health care abroad
• International newsletter available online with updated opportunities
International NGOs
Many NGOs recruit to posts in difficult areas often combining clinical practice with local mentoring/teaching
They tend to require medium term commitment (6 months to a year)
Examples: Medicins sans frontières, Merlin, Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO)
Short to medium term and self-directed projects
The BMA Humanitarian Fund supports humanitarian projects
